FRED Film Radio is joining the inaugural edition of the Pingyao Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon International Film Festival in Pingyao, China, on October 28-November 4, 2017.
2017 marks the year of the inaugural edition of the Pingyao Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon International Film Festival and FRED Film Radio will be there to give you insight on this exciting new international film event. Created by filmmaker Jia Zhang-ke (A Touch of Sin, Mountains May Depart) with former Venice Film Festival head Marco Muller serving as its artistic director, the Pingyao Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon International Film Festival (PYIFF) is being described as “the first boutique Chinese film festival.”
Kicking off in Pingyao Ancient City on October 28, a location listed on the World Cultural Heritage map chosen specifically to embrace dialogue between non-Western and Western film communities with its 2700 years of history, the festival was established with the intention of bridging together the Chinese film industry with those of emerging countries.
Why was it named after Ang Lee’s famous and celebrated motion picture? That is because the competition section of PYIFF will round up emerging talents with debut or sophomore features from all around the world (the Crouching Tigers) and zero on the latest trends and developments in genre cinema (the Hidden Dragons). Other section will include one dedicated to local Chinese production, some of the best films that have been making the rounds at other international film festivals, and more. Overall, approximately 40 films have been chosen for this inaugural edition.
