The New York-based Japanese herald of’observational cinema’ goes back to Kawasaki to film the second campaign for City Council of Kazuhiko Yamauchi, this time not only independently from the LDP but against it – and its pro-nuclear positions. For hardly a month has gone by since Fukushima, and no one but him seems to notice the silence around the subject. With no means and no hope of being heard, but a sense of humour, shock and distance rather fitting to the surreal atmosphere of this campaign, Yama-san becomes an absurd figure: the only sane character in an insane situation.
