Takashi Miike is the most irriverent and prolific director Japan has ever had. He is back in Cannes out of competition with his 100th film, Blade of the Immortal and back on FRED after the Mole Song presented in Rome Film Festival 2013. Miike gets inpiration from a manga, The Immortal , for this tale of revenge about this young woman who “hires” an immortal fighter to help her avenge the killing of her father and kidnapping of her mother. The film, as the other films by the japanese master, manages to create a balance between tradition, comedy and violence. Miike explains how he works on this balance and how his turning codes upside down and his cinema is received by the Japanese audience in comparison to the European one.

Blade of the Immortal: Manji, a highly skilled samurai, becomes cursed with immortality after a legendary battle. Haunted by the brutal murder of his sister, Manji knows that only fighting evil will regain his soul. He promises to help a young girl named Rin avenge her parents, who were killed by a group of master swordsmen led by ruthless warrior Anotsu. The mission will change Manji in ways he could never imagine… The 100th film by Japanese master director Takashi Miike!
