Takashi Miike is the most irriverent and prolific director Japan has ever had. He is back in Cannes out of competition with his 100th film, Blade of the Immortal and back on FRED after the Mole Song presented in Rome Film Festival 2013. Miike gets inpiration from a manga, The Immortal , for this tale of revenge about this young woman who “hires” an immortal fighter to help her avenge the killing of her father and kidnapping of her mother. The film, as the other films by the japanese master, manages to create a balance between tradition, comedy and violence. Miike explains how he works on this balance and how his turning codes upside down and his cinema is received by the Japanese audience in comparison to the European one.
