Two brothers, a villain and an antihero, due faces of Iceland today, the new vs the old: this is Vultures, the new film by Börkur Sigþórsson presented in competition at the 36th Torino Film Festival. The internatioanl title Vultures is not a literary translation of Vargur which can be either offensive or positive as the english “Sharks”. Two brothers representing two different social classes, two social dynamics as to represent Iceland today and its economic rise in the first years 2000′.

Vultures: Erik represents the aspirational face of modern Iceland. Atli, a petty criminal just released from prison, is stuck in a downward spiral. The distance between these two very different brothers vanishes when the duo teams up to smuggle cocaine into Iceland, inside plastic pellets swallowed by a young Polish mule, Sofia. But things go wrong when rule-breaking cop Lena starts closing in on them.
