PODCAST | Francesca Raffi interviews Marina Ramos Caro, Lecturer at the Department of Translation and Interpreting at the University of Murcia.
Research on audio description has undergone an enormous development in the last decade. Marina Ramos Caro, one of the speakers at ARSAD 2023, tells us more about emotions, objectivity versus subjectivity, and the role of ideology in audio description. Since 2007, ARSAD has been the meeting point for researchers, industry, trainers, trainees, users, practitioners, regulators, broadcasters, policy makers, social activists, cultural managers and anyone interested in audio description. ARSAD aims to be a thought-provoking event where we can learn about the present of audio description across the globe from multidisciplinary perspectives and where we can get a glimpse of the future of this fascinating access mode.
Marina Ramos Caro, PhD, is a Lecturer at the Department of Translation and Interpreting at the University of Murcia, Spain. She is particularly interested in the influence of emotions and personality in the process and reception of translation and audio description. Marina Ramos has been awarded several international grants, presented her work at international conferences, and published in journals (Journal of Pragmatics, MonTi, Translation Spaces, The Translator, Perspectives, Journal of Specialised Translation, Onomázein). As a professional translator, she has mainly worked within the fields of subtitling, dubbing, and transcreation. She is also the founder and director of Latrium, the Laboratory for Inclusive Translation of the University of Murcia, a project aimed at promoting the accessibility of the performing arts in the Region of Murcia by means of live surtitles and AD.
