The Presidents of the Jury: Alexander Payne (Venice 82), Julia Ducournau (Orizzonti), Charlotte Wells (First Feature Film).

The 82nd Venice International Film Festival (August 27 – September 6, 2025), directed by Alberto Barbera and organized by La Biennale di Venezia, has officially announced the international juries for its main sections.

The jury presidents will be Alexander Payne for the Venezia 82 Competition, Julia Ducournau for the Orizzonti section, and Charlotte Wells for the Luigi De Laurentiis Award for Best Debut Film.

Venezia 82 Competition

The Main Competition Jury, chaired by American filmmaker Alexander Payne, will award the following prizes:

  • Golden Lion for Best Film

  • Silver Lion – Grand Jury Prize

  • Silver Lion – Best Director

  • Volpi Cup for Best Actress

  • Volpi Cup for Best Actor

  • Best Screenplay Award

  • Special Jury Prize

  • Marcello Mastroianni Award for Best Young Actor/Actress

Orizzonti

The Orizzonti Jury, led by French director Julia Ducournau, will grant seven awards, including Best Film, Best Director, Best Actor, Best Actress, Best Screenplay, Best Short Film and a Special Jury Prize.

Luigi De Laurentiis Award for a Debut Film

The international jury for the Luigi De Laurentiis Award, chaired by Scottish director Charlotte Wells, will include:

The Lion of the Future will be awarded to a debut feature across all competitive sections of the festival, with a $100,000 prize jointly awarded to the director and producer, courtesy of Filmauro.

The Venice International Film Festival will take place from August 27 to September 6, 2025. FRED Film Radio will follow the festival live from Venice with interviews, reports, and full coverage of the sections.
