Interview during the 82nd edition of Venice International Film Festival with Kaouther Ben Hania, director of the film “The voice of Hind Rajab”. The production, part of the official selection in Venice Film Festival 2025, takes us to the West Bank in January 2024, where volunteers from the Red Crescent try to rescue a 6-year-old girl from a car in Gaza, attacked by the Israeli Army.

During the conversation, Kaouther Ben Hania reflects on the significance of the support of Brad Pitt or Joaquin Phoenix as producers, noting that Hollywood’s involvement helps shed light on a story that often remains in silence. While she admits uncertainty about how the film will resonate with the Academy, her commitment remains firm all the way to the Oscars: “I will vote for myself.”

The film depicts the several -and crucial hours- between the first call between the Red Crescent and Hind, the little girl, and the tragic ending of the story. During that time, the volunteers try to establish a coordination with the Israeli Army in order to send an ambulance and help her. The film is based -and shows- the real audios recorded that day.

Plot

January 29, 2024. Red Crescent volunteers receive an emergency call. A six-year-old girl is trapped in a car under fire in Gaza, pleading for rescue. While trying to keep her on the line, they do everything they can to get an ambulance to her. Her name was Hind Rajab.
