PODCAST| Matt Micucci interviews Ahmad Abdalla, director of the film EXT. Night.
Director Ahmad Abdalla presented his latest film, EXT. Night, at the 40th edition of the Cairo International Film Festival in Egypt. The filmmaker tells us that he thinks this is not the type of movie you would expect from the Middle East at an international level, and this prompts a discussion about international perceptions of films from the region. But we also talk about the film itself, and how it differs from Abdalla’s previous, darker, efforts also via its sense of humor. Other topics discussed on this interview include the director’s interests in power structure, cinema’s ability to show realities of the world around us and more.
EXT. Night: Moe, Toutou, Mostafa are three individuals meeting on one extraordinary night. They break the social norm and flirt with its boundaries, each fighting his or her own battle. On the course of this night, they are led to a journey they did not expect inside their own city, and they see a side of it they never witnessed before.
