PODCAST | Matt Micucci interviews Alexander Nanau, director of the documentary Collective. 

Director Alexander Nanau’s latest feature-length documentary, Collective, was presented out of competition at the 2019 Venice International Film Festival. The documentary focuses on the events following the fire of the Colectiv Club in Bucharest, Romania, unearthing some uncomfortable truths about the health system and the operations of a heavy journalistic investigation. In this interview, Nanau talks to us about the making of the film as well as whether he still believes in democracy, among other things.

Collective: In the aftermath of a tragic fire in a Romanian music club, more burn victims begin dying in hospitals from wounds that were not life-threatening. A team of investigative journalists move into action to uncover massive corruption in the health system and other state institutions. Following journalists, whistle-blowers, and government officials, Colectiv is an immersive and uncompromising look into the price of corruption and the price of truth.
