Through his masterful handling of characters and plot, director Boo Junfeng brings us inside a solid drama about a young man’s obsession with his father’s killer. The twist comes when he realizes that the perpetrator of his father’s death is not the monster he thought he was. Apprentice is a film about death penalties, analyzed from the inside and seen from an unusual point of view. Profoundly affecting.
