PODCAST | Matt Micucci interviews Cristian Mungiu, president of IFFAM 2019’s New Chinese Cinema competition.
A conversation with the great Romanian filmmaker Cristian Mungiu, president of the jury for the New Chinese Cinema competition at the 2019 International Film Festival and Awards Macao. Mungiu shares with us some of his ideas about cinema, his definition of film juries. He also discusses his opinion on the discourse around cinema today and whether he believes we live in an age of opinions rather than an age of ideas. Finally, given that he is, as mentioned, president of the jury for the New Chinese Cinema competition of Macao’s international film festival, he tells us what he thinks about current Chinese cinema and reveals that he is not a great believer in the idea of “national cinemas.”
