Atsushi Funahashi – Filmmaker

This is an extract from the 2015 Berlinale Talents panel discussion “Hybrid News: Documenting True Events” from the 65th Berlin International Film Festival.

In this extract, documentary filmmaker Atsushi Funahashi talks about the difference between documentaries and the news. He also talks about how authenticity and objectivity can be obtained in documentary filmmaking.

Atsushi Funahashi is a Japanese director. His early films BIG RIVER and DEEP IN THE VALLEY, just like his gripping films about the aftermath of the Fukushima tragedy, the documentary NUCLEAR NATION and the feature film COLD BLOOM, were all shown in the Berlinale Forum section. His follow-up NUCLEAR NATION II was once again selected for this year’s Berlinale Forum.
