Interview during the 82nd edition of Venice International Film Festival with Vicky Krieps and Mayim Bialik, actresses of the film “Father Mother Sister Brother”, by director Jim Jarmusch. The production, in competition in Venice Film Festival 2025, is composed by three stories about families that reflect on their love and relationships.
During their interview with FRED Film Radio, our guests talk about the importance of families as a dramatic vehicle to tell compelling stories in cinema. Besides, they describe Jim Jarmusch as a director on the set: “He’s most of all a human being and very much like a child. And I think he’s making his movies the same way he was making them when he started”, told Mayim Bialik.
“Father Mother Sister Brother” starts with story of two sibling -Bialik and Adam Sandler- that travel to a confined cabin in order to pay a visit to their father (Tom Waits); in the second story, two sisters -Vicky Krieps and Cate Blanchett- pay their anual visit to their mother (Charlotte Rampling) for afternoon tea; in the final one, two siblings -Indya Moore and Luka Sabatt- mourn their lost parents.
Plot
Father Mother Sister Brother is a feature film, though carefully constructed in the form of a triptych. The three stories all concern the relationships between adult children, their somewhat distant parent (or parents) and each other. Each of the three chapters takes place in the present, and each in a different country.
