L’auteure de ce film-révélation totalement maîtrisé dans sa démence débridée nous explique comment il s’inscrit dans la continuité de son travail sur l’adolescence et la métamorphose, et pourquoi elle a voulu le faire basculer dans l’extrême. Ducournau évoque également les raisons thématiques et visuelles de son choix d’une école vétérinaire de Liège comme décor de son étonnant récit, physique et mental à la fois, et étrangement délicat dans sa totale désinhibition, et mentionne les influences cinématographiques qui ont pu marquer son travail.

GRAVE (Raw): Dans la famille de Justine tout le monde est vétérinaire et végétarien. À 16 ans, elle est une adolescente surdouée sur le point d’intégrer l’école véto où sa sœur ainée est également élève. Mais, à peine installée, le bizutage commence pour les premières années. On force Justine à manger de la viande crue. C’est la première fois de sa vie. Les conséquences ne se font pas attendre. Justine découvre sa vraie nature. (Semaine de la critique)
