Olivia Hamilton and Jason Clarke play husband and wife in Damien Chazelle’s third film First Man, based on the Neil Armstrong’s biography, in competition at the 75th Venice Film Festival. Jason Clarke is Edward Higgins White, one of Neil Armstrong’s fellow astronaut colleagues, who died before actually getting to participate to the Apollo 11 Mission which landed for the first time on the moon. Both actors unveil how detailed Chazelle was in preparing them and how privileged they felt by having the chance of working with this young but great director.
First Man is the riveting story of NASA’s mission to land a man on the moon, focusing on Neil Armstrong and the years 1961-1969. A visceral, first-person account, based on the book by James R. Hansen, the movie explores the sacrifices and the cost – on Armstrong and on the nation – of one of the most dangerous missions in history.
