In conversation with actor Liao Fan and actress Gwei Lun Mei, the two amazing protagonists of Diao Yinan’s acclaimed Berlin competition entry “Bai ri yan huo (Black Coal, Thin Ice). The two actors comments on their roles in this stylised noir: Liao is Zhang Zili, a retired detective who wants to redeem himself by solving a gruesome case; Gwei is Wu Zhizhen, a mysterious femme fatale who seems to be connected to the victims and whom the detective falls in love with.
