PODCAST | Matt Micucci interviews Logan George and Celine Held, directors of the film Topside.
A conversation with Logan George and Celine Held, directors of Topside. The film was presented within the program of the International Critics’ Week, the parallel and independent strand of the 77th Venice International Film Festival. In this interview, we talk about the origins of the story, which explores such themes as homelessness and motherhood in an intense and powerful way. They also talk about the strong style of Topside as well as working with its young protagonist Zhaila Farmer. This interview was recorded for the Big FRED Tuesday.
Topside: Deep in the underbelly of New York City, a five-year-old girl and her mother have claimed the abandoned tunnels as their home. After a sudden police-mandated eviction, the pair are forced to flee aboveground into a brutal winter night.
