PODCAST | Chiara Nicoletti interviews Michel Franco, director of the film Las hijas de Abril.
After getting inspired by real facts he experienced in his own life, with April’s Daughter – Las Hijas de Abril, Mexican director Michel Franco decided to analyze motherhood and what it means to become a mother, especially at a young age as his protagonist in the film. After Chronic which was in competition, Franco is back in Cannes in the Un Certain Regard section. The film counts on the participation, in the role of April, of spanish actress Emma Suarez, who was Pedro Almodovar’s main actress in Julieta, at the Festival de Cannes last year.
Las hijas de Abril: Valeria is 17 and pregnant. She lives in Puerto Vallarta with Clara, her half-sister. Valeria has not wanted her long-absent mother, April, to find out about her pregnancy, but due to the economic strain and the overwhelming responsibility of having a baby in the house, Clara decides to call their mother. April arrives, willing to help her daughters, but soon it will be clear why Valeria had kept her away.
