Quentin Dupieux‘s latest film, “Le Deuxième Acte” (The Second Act), is set to open the upcoming Festival de Cannes. Presented Out of Competition as a world premiere on May 14, this four-part comedy promises to delight audiences with its daring and unpredictable storyline.
Quentin Dupieux, known for his unconventional approach to filmmaking, has carved a unique niche in the industry. With 13 feature films in 17 years, Dupieux has established himself as a boundary-pushing artist, embracing freedom in tone, form, and subject matter.

“The Second Act” is the latest addition to Dupieux’s absurd and surreal narrative repertoire. From a road movie featuring plastic surgery (Steak) to a story about a killer tyre (Rubber) or a giant fly trained by thugs (Mandibles), Dupieux’s films defy convention and challenge traditional genre boundaries.
This time, Dupieux brings together a stellar cast, including Léa Seydoux, Vincent Lindon, and Louis Garrel, alongside returning collaborator Raphaël Quenard (Mandibles, Smoking Causes Coughing, and Yannick). The red carpet at Cannes promises to be a star-studded affair, with some of the brightest stars of French cinema gracing the event.
The 77th Festival de Cannes will kick off with a grand opening ceremony broadcast live on France Télévisions and Brut. Camille Cottin will serve as Master of Ceremony, setting the stage for an unforgettable evening celebrating cinema.
In partnership with the Fédération Nationale des Cinémas Français (FNCF), numerous cinemas across France will screen the opening ceremony and “The Second Act,” ensuring that audiences nationwide can be part of the excitement.
In “The Second Act,” Florence introduces her love interest, David, to her father, Guillaume. However, David has other plans and attempts to match Florence with his friend, Willy. The four characters are in a surreal situation as they meet in a remote restaurant.
As anticipation builds for the Festival de Cannes, “The Second Act” promises to be a highlight of this year’s event, showcasing Dupieux’s unique vision and storytelling prowess.
