Korean actor Teo Yoo tells us about the long, suspenseful casting process which led him to join the cast of Summer only three weeks before principal photography started, about how he relates to the character of Viktor Tsoi, the lead singer of famous 80s group Kino, about how he worked on this famous Russian character without knowing the language, and on his physical presence. He also describes how emotional the team was to discover the film here in Cannes without the director, as well as the work with Kirill Serebrennikov – and without him, as there was still a week of shooting left when he was placed under house arrest in Moscow.

Summer: Kirill Serebrennikov’s beautiful (almost only) black and white film (with added text and other elements) is a true ray of sunshine and rebellious rock tearing open the Soviet grey. ‘Leningrad, one Summer in the early Eighties. The underground rock scene is boiling. Amongst the followers of Led Zeppelin and Bowie, young Viktor Tsoi is eager to make a name for himself. The encounter with his idol Mike and his beautiful wife Natasha will change his life forever. Together they will build Viktor’s legend and make him immortal’.
