PODCAST | Chiara Nicoletti interviews Charlotte Wells, director of the film Aftersun.
Charlotte Wells’ first feature film, Aftersun, presented at the Cannes Film Festival and in Italy at Alice nella città, is finally on Mubi to be watched and appreciated. It is a first feature film which is, at the same time, an enchanting and nostalgic look at a father-daughter relationship and a delicate coming-of-age.
Aftersun: Sophie reflects on the shared joy and private melancholy of a holiday she took with her father twenty years earlier. Memories real and imagined fill the gaps between miniDV footage as she tries to reconcile the father she knew with the man she didn’t.
"How to have sex" , the opening film of Alice nella Città 2023, is DOP Molly Manning Walker's directorial debut and is about the sexual pressure the teenage world is built around
Michel Franco about "Dreams" : 'When the father says "It’s okay to help immigrants, but there are limits," that’s the biggest question in the film: can people [from different contexts] truly see each other as equals?'
"Future Future" director Davi Pretto: 'The apocalypse is not what Hollywood says it is, a huge bang. That's not the apocalypse. The apocalypse is happening every day.'
'The screenplay of "They Come Out of Margo"', says director Alexandros Voulgaris, 'started with another composer, then it became personal, and then it also became about female artists in the 70s and 80s.'
"Bidad" director Soheil Beiraghi: 'A lot is happening in Iran: there is life, their is beauty, and there is a happiness around, and we need to portray that.'
