A conversation with David Gordon Green, director of Halloween Kills, presented out of competition at the 78th Venice Film Festival. This is the middle chapter of his Halloween trilogy, based on the characters co-created by John Carpenter. Here, he talks with us about working within the horror genre and whether he draws inspiration from the news and current events. He also shares his memories of watching the original Halloween movie for the first time and talks about working with Jamie Lee Curtis, who not only appears in this movie but is also receiving a Golden Lion for Career Achievement at the Venice Film Festival this year.

Halloween Kills: The Halloween night when Michael Myers returned isn’t over yet. Minutes after Laurie Strode, her daughter Karen and granddaughter Allyson left masked monster Michael Myers caged and burning in Laurie’s basement, Laurie is rushed to the hospital with life-threatening injuries, believing she finally killed her lifelong tormentor. But when Michael manages to free himself from Laurie’s trap, his ritual bloodbath resumes. As Laurie fights her pain and prepares to defend herself against him, she inspires all of Haddonfield to rise up against their unstoppable monster.
