David Pablos – director – The Chosen Ones (Las Elegidas)

FRED’s Chiara Nicoletti meets David Pablos, in Cannes to present his new film Las Elegidas (The Chosen Ones) in the Un Certain Regard Section.

The film is about a 14 years old girl being forced to enter a prostitution house by her boyfriend’s family. Pablosgot the idea of the film from a script written by Jorge Volpi. He changed some essential elements in the story and wrote another script.

Before writing and shooting The Chosen Ones, Pablos actually talked to women that had gone through this nightmare and found out that most of the time, the girls getting into this trap are the ones longing to be loved because of a sad family situation.

THE CHOSEN ONES (LAS ELEGIDAS): Sofia, 14 years old, is in love with Ulises. Because of him, in spite of him, she is forced into a prostitution ring in Mexico. To set her free, Ulises will have to find another girl to replace her…
