Pen-ek Ratanaruang pens a noir movie that starts in the classic manner and then turns into a satire, a feminist declaration, with a splash of violence. A fascinating mixture that captures the audience from the start, until the unexpected turn that makes it even more gripping. Pen-Ek, who wrote the script too, got the initial inspiration from something that happened to him… But you can hear it directly from him.

Samui Song: Viyada, a Thai soap opera actress in her mid-30s, finds herself increasingly pressured by her husband Jérôme, a rich foreigner entirely devoted to a charismatic cult leader called The Holy One. Viyada has no other choice than to take the most drastic measures in order to escape from the cult’s influence once and for all.
