Richard Linklater – Filmmaker – Boyhood
Richard Linklater talks about his film “Boyhood”, which premiered at the Berlin International Film Festival 2014 to great critical acclaim. Filmed over the course of 12 years, “Boyhood” is an extremely unique coming of age drama, as we follow the life of lead character Mason (Ellar Coltrane) from his childhood to his late teens.
An amazingly ambitious project that works to great effect, also thanks to a wonderful cohesive work of editing that matches the scale of the original vision by Linklater, who with this film stretches the conventional boundaries of cinema through riveting and exciting experimentation. “Boyhood” also features great turns by Ethan Hawke and Patricia Arquette, in the roles of the divorced parents, and the director’s own daughter Lorelei Linklater in the role of his sister.
