Andrew Haigh – director – 45 Years
FRED’s Chiara Nicoletti meets Andrew Haigh, who is at the 65th Berlinale with his new film 45 YEARS which is screening in Competition.
The film sees the participation of British iconic actors Charlotte Rampling and Tom Couternay playing a couple who’s about to celebrate the 45th anniversary of marriage. A few days before celebrating this big event, Geoff (Tom Courtenay) receives a letter finally solving the mistery behind the disappearance of his girlfriend of 50 years before. The memories and all the things he buried in his mind 50 years before slowly start to come to surface again and threaten the couple’s harmony.
After WEEKEND, Andrew Haigh decides to portray relationships again and this time he proves his ability to inflect all aspects of human and love relationships.
Plot: There is just one week until Kate Mercer’s forty-fifth wedding anniversary and the planning for the party is going well. But then a letter arrives for her husband. The body of his first love has been discovered, frozen and preserved in the icy glaciers of the Swiss Alps. By the time the party is upon them, five days later, there may not be a marriage left to celebrate.
