FRED’s Chiara Nicoletti is joined once again by Alessandro Gropplero, head of the Trieste Film Festival’s co-production market When East Meets West, to talk about its upcoming edition, which will run on January 24-26, 2016.
Last year’s edition was defined by its successful experimental focus on the United Kingdom, Ireland and North America. This year, When East Meets West to follow up on its 2015 success, and expands by welcoming new connections with Spain, Portugal and Latin America.
When East Meets West 2016 will bring together more than 300 producers, financiers, decision makers and film professionals from over 30 countries, and particularly from the Easter European, Italian and Latin territories.
First Cut Lab, the workshop designed for films in the editing stage, is one of the market’s first features. This year it has been renewed after the great and rewarding results of its first edition last year.
The market’s precise ethos of forming a natural bridge between the filmmaking communities of the East and the West is also its key to success. 22 projects have been selected for this year’s When East Meets West, which runs this year for the 6th time.
“WHEN EAST MEETS WEST is organized by the FVG Audiovisual Fund and the Trieste Film Festival, WEMW is organized by the FVG Audiovisual Fund and the Trieste Film Festival in collaboration with EAVE, Maia Workshops, EURIMAGES, and the support of Creative Europe/MEDIA Programme, Direzione Centrale per il Cinema – MIBACT and CEI – Central European Initiative.
The main aim is to bring together every year financiers, decision makers and film professionals coming from Eastern European countries, Italy and another selected Western region (a different one every year). After a first focus on the French film industry in 2011, the Nordic countries in 2012, the German speaking Countries in 2013, the Benelux in 2014, the English speaking countries in 2015, the next 2016 edition wishes to encourage and build up new important connections with Spain, Portugal and Latin America.” (description taken from the Official Facebook page of When East Meets West)
