"The Buckingham Murders", interview with director Hansal Metha and actress Kareena Kapoor Khan Laura Della Corte
In an exclusive conversation with Fred Film Radio, we are delighted to delve into the thrilling world of “The Buckingham Murders” with the talented Kareena Kapoor Khan and the acclaimed director Hansal Mehta. This atmospheric thriller, which had its world premiere at the 67th BFI London Film Festival and which also served as the opening film for Jio Mami Mumbai Film Festival. marks a significant chapter in Kareena‘s career.
Kareena Kapoor Khan, an iconic presence in the world of cinema, unveils her deep affinity for investigative tales and the joy of embracing a long-awaited role in “The Buckingham Murder“. Directed by the visionary Hansal Mehta, the film provides Kareena the opportunity to portray Jasmeet Bhamra, a dedicated policewoman and single mother, embarking on a gripping journey in the picturesque setting of High Wycombe, London.
For Kareena, Jasmeet is more than just a character on paper; she is a figure with whom she deeply resonates. After over two decades in the industry, the desire to step into the shoes of a detective has finally materialized. From classic detective portrayals like Karamchand to iconic performances by Helen Mirren, Agatha Christie‘s Hercule Poirot, and Kate Winslet‘s compelling role in “Mare of Easttown“, Kareena has always been drawn to the strength and resilience of female detectives.
The proposal for “The Buckingham Murders“, conveyed through a 25-page synopsis by Hansal Mehta and Ekta Kapoor, presented Kareena with a unique opportunity. Reading the document in the quiet of the night, she felt a profound connection with Jasmeet, the character she had eagerly awaited to embrace.
This experience, beyond being an incredible journey of transformation as an actress, marks Kareena‘s debut as a producer. In collaboration with Ekta and Hansal, she embarked on the challenge of creating an unconventional yet emotionally sincere film, a journey filled with smiles and tears.
The conversation with Kareena Kapoor Khan and Hansal Mehta sheds light on the gripping narrative of “The Buckingham Murders“, offering an in-depth look into the world of investigative stories and the excitement of being a producer for the first time. Join us as we delve into the heart of this captivating thriller and Kareena’s remarkable portrayal of Jasmeet Bhamra.
Set in the quaint borough of High Wycombe, England, the story of a grieving cop who loses her child to murder and moves to another town where she’s tasked with investigating the disappearance of a missing child. Exploring themes of trauma, grief, the immigrant experience and our very innate need for closure, the film illustrates the polarised nature of our times and the human cost of that divide.
