“Conversation with” at the 20th Marrakech IFF, interview with actor Willem Dafoe Bénédicte Prot
“One To One: John and Yoko“, by Kevin Macdonald, presented Out of Competition at the Venice International Film Festival, is more than a documentary about a concert (the only live gig John Lennon did in New York), it is a fresco of 1970s New York, a collage of the sensations and impressions that a British citizen, albeit a famous one like John Lennon, felt when he moved to live with Yoko Ono in the Big Apple.
Kevin Macdonald had the concert material and was looking for a new, unprecedented way to tell the story of John Lennon. reading an interview from that period, he was struck by the phrase: ‘when I arrived in America, I spent two years watching television’. That was the inspiration.
Kevin Macdonald tells how John Lennon on his arrival in the US felt politically committed, wanted to make a difference, to help keep Richard Nixon from being re-elected. This militant idea then faded and he only did one concert, the one we see in the film.

"One To One: John And Yoko", interview with the director Kevin Macdonald Angelo Acerbi
This documentary film, set in New York in 1972, explores John and Yoko’s musical, personal, artistic, social, and political world against the backdrop of a turbulent era in American history. At the core of the film is the One to One charity concert for special needs children, John Lennon’s only full-length concert between the final Beatles concert in 1966 and his death. The film includes a wealth of previously unseen Lennon archives, including personal phone calls, home movies filmed by John and Yoko as well as restored and remastered footage from the One to One concert with remixed audio overseen by Sean Ono Lennon.
