Festival Section: Autumn.
FRED’s Matt Micucci meets filmmaker JEAN LUC HERBULOT, who presented his film DEALER in the Autumn strand at the Raindance Film Festival 2014. We talk about setting is coke fuelled rollercoaster ride to hell in Paris – defying the setting’s more cinematic and romantic conventional representation on the big screen -, how the project was shaped by the film’s star and producer Dan Bronchinson’s own personal experiences and the challenges of shooting and finalizing a film on a tight schedule and with a tight budget in true guerrilla filmmaking style.
DEALER is a film about a man with a dream who is willing to do anything it takes to achieve it. The lead character Dan wants to leave his criminal life behind and take off to Australia, and his restlessness to achieve his dream leads him to making one big mistake and agreeing to deliver a kilo of coke to one of his clients. When the coke disappears, he finds himself on a race against time to give the bad guys in the tale his money back and save the life of his little daughter and mother in the process.
