Naza completes the Venice 2026 Competition lineup

With Naza at the Venice Film Festival 2026, the 83rd edition has completed its Competition lineup. The documentary is directed by Yuval Abraham and Rachel Szor, two of the four co-directors of No Other Land, which won the Academy Award for Best Documentary Feature in 2025. La Biennale di Venezia announced the addition on 24 August, shortly before the festival opens on 2 September.

Naza completes the Venice 2026 Competition

The addition of Naza brings the main Competition to 21 films, the maximum number established for the section. The official festival listing gives the documentary a running time of 80 minutes and identifies Hebrew and English as its languages.

Abraham and Szor are making their first appearance in the Venice Film Festival Competition. They join nine other directors making their Competition debut across this year’s 21 titles: Casey Affleck, Alì Asgari, Danny Boyle, May el-Toukhy, Cédric Kahn, Ilya Khrzhanovsky, Lance Oppenheim, Nicolas Pariser and Paolo Strippoli.

Abraham and Szor return after No Other Land

Abraham and Szor previously co-directed No Other Land with Basel Adra and Hamdan Ballal. The film won the 2025 Academy Award for Best Documentary Feature, bringing the four filmmakers international recognition.

Naza marks a new collaboration between Abraham and Szor and continues their work on a subject connected to Israel and Palestine, this time focusing explicitly on Gaza.

According to the official synopsis, the documentary was “shot at night on the rooftops of Tel Aviv” and examines systems that, in the film’s formulation, are behind Israel’s mass killing of Palestinian civilians in Gaza. The wording reflects the documentary’s stated investigative premise and is presented by La Biennale as part of the film’s official synopsis.

The Guardian and Jonathan Glazer behind Naza

Naza is produced by The Guardian and James Wilson of JW Films, with Jonathan Glazer serving as executive producer. Wilson and Glazer previously worked together on The Zone of Interest, the film that won two Academy Awards in 2024, including Best International Feature Film. La Biennale describes Wilson and Glazer as the Oscar-winning team behind that production.

The Guardian’s involvement is also reflected in the delegation expected for the film’s Venice presentation. According to the festival announcement, the directors and producers will attend together with Guardian journalists and the official delegation.

Naza screenings at Venice 2026

The main public screening of Naza is scheduled for 10 September at 17:15 in the Sala Grande of the Palazzo del Cinema. A second public screening is listed for 11 September at 17:00 at the PalaBiennale.

For accredited guests, the festival program also lists screenings on 10 September at 09:00 in Sala Grande and at 11:30 in Sala Darsena, followed by a 17:15 screening in Sala Grande.

The addition of Naza therefore completes the Competition program of the 83rd Venice International Film Festival, which will take place on the Lido between 2 and 12 September 2026.
