“Conversation with” at the 20th Marrakech IFF, interview with actor Willem Dafoe Bénédicte Prot
The Last Act” by Paymon Shahbod was screened in the Features Competition at the 42nd Torino Film Festival. The film narrates the story of an actress whose real life is reflected in the plot of the movie she is shooting. We talked about this film within the film with the director Paymam Shahbod, on the occasion of the screenings in Torino.
“The Last Act” is about a film crew shooting a film, on a bus travelling continuously in the countryside outside Teheran. But as the director Payman Shahbod tells us it is also a chamber film as the sìaction of the ongoing shooting takes place alway and only inside a bus, creating an intimate and small world closed to the outside reality.

"The Last Act", interview with the director Payman Shahbod Angelo Acerbi

The film crew embarks on a day’s journey in a bus, to reach the location where Farzaneh is to confront her lost daughter. On the bus, Farzaneh learns about the disappearance of her own daughter. Her husband pressures her to return home, but she is determined to continue work. Farzaneh’s take on the role, of a tormented poor woman, differs from that of the director. This, along with her own personal family problems lead to increasing conflict with the director which threatens the movie…
