Based on an original screenplay by Koyama Kundo, who also has an Oscar-winning film to his credit such as Departures, the story of Yudo reserves us the pleasure of visually lingering on the movie’s sento, a pearl of the architecture of the public baths of the era Showa (1926-1989).

In the interview with Suzuki Masayuki, Wakamatsu Hiroki and Koyama Kundo, director, producer and screenwriter of Yudo, we talked about the real message at center of its story.

Yudo – The way of the bath:Shiro and Goro inherit an onsen, the traditional public baths we’ve seen in dozens of Japanese movies. The former would like to build a small building, the latter to carry on the business. Witness of this encounter/clash a series of delightful characters, from the austere “toilet critic” to the customers of the establishment, who with their load of humanity demonstrate how much tradition and innovation can be compatible.
