PODCAST | Chiara Nicoletti interviews Gabe Klinger and Lucie Lucas, director and actress of the film Porto.
Gabe Klinger is back on Fred to present his first feature film Porto in competition at the Torino Film Festival. The film stars Lucie Lucas and the late Anton Yelchin and it portrays a tormented and passionate love story set in the portuguese city. After winning the 2013 Venice Classics award with his documentary Double Play, Klinger reveals the reasons behind the choice of a love story for his first feature film and how he worked on the visuals ( he shot in super 8 and 35mm) to give the film a particular sense of melancholy and vintage feeling to the universal themes analyzed. French actress Lucie Lucas tells us about her involvement in the film, the casting process and the unique experience of working with Anton Yelchin. Without him, the film wouldn’t have been the same.
Porto. Two foreigners live in the city of Oporto, the American Jake [Anton Yelchin, in his final acting appearance, editor’s note] and the girl Mati, a student from France. Destiny seems to be toying with them, as they run into each other at different times and places. Jake takes advantage of the opportunity provided by these casual encounters, gets up his courage and approaches Mati. Despite the good start, it isn’t the beginning of a love story but a one night stand. The memory of that night will return insistently in the lives of these two occasional lovers, showing them the power of an encounter.
