At the 37th Torino Film Festival, italian but Paris-based Director Gianluca Matarrese presents Everything Must Go in the TFF doc section. The film started as a documentary on the effects of the economical crisis in Italy and it slowly but passionately became a very personal film about the professional and working history of a family. By filming his parents and sister trying to survive the falling of an empire, Gianluca Matarrese comes back home physically and emotionally and realizes a universal film about fathers and sons, sisters and brothers, falling down and getting back on your feet again.

Everything Must Go: Founded in the early 1980s, the shoe cooperative Togo numbered over thirty stores in Turin and its province. Until 2012, when that dream and that empire began to crumble. Today, all that remain are two stores and 450,000 euros in debt. Every morning, my parents and my sister wake up and don’t know how they will cope. When I realized the disaster, I joined them and witnessed the explosion of malaise which, for years, I had pretended didn’t exist.
