PODCAST | Chiara Nicoletti interviews Bob Byington, director of the film Frances Ferguson.
It is a non judgmental tale about a teacher, making very bad choices because of how unhappy she is with her life: Frances Ferguson by Bob Byington is at the 37th Torino Film Festival in the Festa Mobile section. The director comments on the choice of a female protagonist, played by Kaley Wheless and the idea of having his friend Nick Offerman as the narrator of the events, a voice-over interrupting, intervening, anticipating the happenings in the story.
Frances Ferguson: Frances is substitute teacher with a dead marriage and she is bored and discontent. One day at school, she meets a student and she starts an affair with him, which of course she gets nabbed for. She pays the price: an arrest, a trial, incarceration. And then a new identity, one that’s not terribly comfortable. Based on actual events.
