Luca Guadagnino – The Staggering Girl #Cannes2019
PODCAST| Chiara Nicoletti interviews Luca Guadagnino, director of the film The Staggering Girl.
It could be actually hard to believe but the 72nd edition of Festival De Cannes is director Luca Guadagnino’s first time at the Festival ever. In Quinzaine des Réalisateurs, he presents The Staggering Girl, a medium-length film starring Julianne Moore and realized with the participation of Maison Valentino’s creative director Pierpaolo Piccioli. As it goes through the chapters of a woman’s life by moving back and forth along her memories, her past and her present, the film is a fusion of creative visions and languages, the fashion and couture narrative language and the cinematographic one. Luca Guadagnino explains how he worked on blending these two visions and how he worked on get into the protagonist’s life and memories in only 35 minutes.
The Staggering Girl: The cinematographic language and the language of Couture simultaneously follow an intimate story line, made of symbols, gestures and images. Moving between Rome and New York, the movie narrates the strength of a blood relationship between two women who have come to a day of reckoning with themselves, through a diachronic and introspective overview.
