This is an extract from a Berlinale Talents event titled “Animated Gifts: Welcome to Cartoon Saloon”, featuring directors and animators Tomm Moore and Ross Stewart. In this extract, they talk about The Secret of Kells, which despite being the first production by Cartoon Saloon, the Irish animation film and television studio, was an absolute success that even earned them an Academy Award nomination. Here, they talk about the beginning of the project, the inspiration, the way in which the story was developed and some of the challenges they faced.
