PODCAST | Chiara Nicoletti interviews Marion Döring, EFA director and president of the jury of the 2017 Lecce European Film Festival.

FRED Film Radio meets Marion Döring once again. We caught up with the director of the European Film Academy (EFA) in Lecce, Italy at the European Film Festival, where she served as president of the jury of the main competition.

As a representative of EFA, Döring fully supports the cause of director Oleg Sentsov and, along with filmmaker Agnieszka Holland, accompanied Askold Kurov, the director of the documentary The Trial: The State of Russia Vs. Oleg Sentsov, in his presentation of the film to the Italian audiences.

Döring analyzes the role of filmmakers and in general of European cinema to build consciences, to generate awareness on the social and political situation surrounding us all. As the Young Audience Awards ‘ ceremony is approaching, Döring also talks about how important it is to educate, form and develop an audience for European films starting from young students who are ready and prepared to watch independent films.

Marion Döring studied French and Portuguese at the University of Mainz from 1972 to 1975 and then, from 1976 to 1979, worked as a trainee and later editor at the daily newspapers Fuldaer Zeitung and Hessisch/Niedersächsische Allgemeine. Between 1980 and 1985 she worked as free-lance journalist in Berlin, from 1985 to 1988 as press attaché of the “750 Years Anniversary Berlin 1987″ and “Berlin – European Capital of Culture 1988″. She has been connected to the history of the European Film Academy since its very beginnings in 1988: first as PR manager of the European Film Awards, later as project manager for the Academy’s activities and publications, since 1996 as the Academy’s director. Starting in 2004, she also acts as producer for the European Film Awards and since 2006 as managing director of EFA Productions gGmbH, the company producing the Awards together with the European Film Academy.
