Amoruso torna a interrogarsi sui temi a lei cari: il corpo delle donne, la fragilità della bellezza esteriore, il potere dell’immagine. Le adolescenti e l’immaginario femminile. Fino a che punto le madri sono consapevoli di incidere sul futuro delle figlie forzandole verso una vita da vivere al servizio dell’apparire. La vecchiaia, ancora oggi un tabù che schiaccia le donne sotto un giogo pesantissimo.
Bellissime: Giovanna è una ventenne attraente, ma nei primi anni Duemila è stata la baby modella più richiesta d’Italia, e forse del mondo. Per cinque anni è stata la testimonial delle pubblicità Mattel dedicate alla Barbie. Francesca ha appena compiuto diciotto anni. È stata tagliata fuori dalle misure minime. Un freno, ma non uno stop. Per questo si è iscritta a Miss Mascotte, l’anticamera di Miss Italia. Nelle aspirazioni di Valentina c’è un reality, Il Collegio, e quell’incredibile possibilità di agguantare la fama con il favore del telecomando. Mamma Cristina, per tenersi in forma, si allena facendo pole dance: il palo, enorme, l’ha montato proprio al centro del suo salotto. Si è data l’obiettivo di lavorare come ballerina nei locali di Ibiza, e deve essere perfetta. Una famiglia, quattro donne unite dalla stessa passione: la Bellezza. Una riflessione aperta sul culto dell’apparire, su cosa voglia dire essere bambine, adolescenti e madri, in un continuo gioco di rimandi tra passato e presente.
