At Kinótico, on the occasion of our special coverage of the San Sebastian Film Festival, in collaboration with FRED Film Radio, we talked to Adam Elliot, director and screenwriter of “Memoir of a snail“.
The Australian director is premiering in Zinemaldia right after the film won the last edition of Festival de Annecy, the most important recognition for an animation film in the film festival world.
Oscar winner in 2004 with his short film “Harvie Krumpet“, Adam Elliot competes in the Perlak section where “Memoir of a snail“ is one of only two animation films. The other one competing for the audience award is a US production, “The Wild Robot“.

In 1970s Australia, Grace's life is troubled by misfortune and loss. When her family unit falls to pieces and she is separated from her twin brother, Gilbert, she turns to hoarding ornamental snails to ease her loneliness. Grace finds hope when she strikes up a friendship with an elderly eccentric woman called Pinky, who gives her the courage to come out of her shell and step away from the things that overcrowd her home and her mind.
