PODCAST | Chiara Nicoletti interviews David Vialard, from the Texas State University and the Illinois State University.

David Vialard is a PhD candidate in Technical Communication and Rhetoric at Texas Tech University and he is also an Instructional Assistant Professor in the English Department at Illinois State University. At Arsad 2017, he presented his research and study on “Audio description as a pedagogical tool in composition and writing”. On FRED, he reveals how he started to look at Audio description in a different light and how he decided to use it in other ways. In his presentation, Vialard explores the many ways in which AD can pedagogically add to English Literature, Theatre, and Technical Writing courses through practical means of teaching analysis and discursive means of examining the roles language and social practice play in constructing social models of disability and access.

Since its beginning in 2007, the international seminar on audio description ARSAD has been a meeting point for all key agents interested in both research and practice in audio description. Its sixth edition, to be held in Barcelona on March 16th (all day) and 17th (morning) 2017, aims to take stock of recent advances while looking at the future of the field. ARSAD 2017 would like to engage practitioners, researchers, trainers, trainees, regulators, broadcasters, users, social activists, cultural managers, and anyone interested in audio description in a fruitful discussion on the past, present and future of audio description.
