An interview with the president of the Cairo International Film Festival Mohammed Hefzy, recorded in the midst of the festival’s 2019 edition. Last year, we attended to report and document a session that marked a new beginning for the festival. Hefzy shares with us some of its ambitions and the ways in which that growth and development has manifested. He also talks with us about its importance within the region’s film industry and the ways in which it connects with the local audience. To end it all, he shares with us a thought about the Youssef Cherif Rizkallah, the prominent and deeply influential Egyptian film critic who was a central figure in the history of the Cairo International Film Festival.
