The highly anticipated 80th Venice International Film Festival (August 30 – September 9) promises an extraordinary edition featuring a series of unmissable masterclasses and conversations led by some of the world’s most illustrious cinema figures.
From August 31 to September 4, the Conference Hall of the Casino Palace at Lido will become a stage for insightful encounters, where directors and prominent figures from the film industry will discuss the challenges and evolution of cinema.
Highlighting the event will be three masterclasses featuring internationally acclaimed directors. Liliana Cavani, recipient of the Golden Lion for Lifetime Achievement, will hold her masterclass on August 31, followed by Nicolas Winding Refn, paying tribute to director Ruggero Deodato, on September 1, and finally, Wes Anderson, honoured with the Cartier Glory to the Filmmaker Award, on September 2. Enthusiasts can attend in person and follow these captivating sessions via live stream on www.labiennale.org.
Simultaneously, two conversations organized in collaboration with Cartier – The Art and Craft of Cinema, promise engaging exchanges. On September 1, filmmaker Damien Chazelle, President of the Venice 80 Jury, will dialogue with composer Justin Hurwitz, who has collaborated extensively with Chazelle on his films from Whiplash to La La Land and the recent Babylon.
On September 4, Oscar-winning production designers Francesca lo Schiavo and Dante Ferretti will participate in an enthralling discussion, undoubtedly a significant event for all enthusiasts of the seventh art.
The event will also embrace international themes, with a conversation dedicated to September 3, featuring directors Edward Berger and Philippe Falardeau, framed within the scope of the Venice Production Bridge, which this year focuses on Germany and Quebec.
