“Conversation with” at the 20th Marrakech IFF, interview with actor Willem Dafoe Bénédicte Prot
On April 12, 2025, during the 40th edition of the Lovers Film Festival, actor and producer Alan Cumming will be honored with the Stella della Mole, a prestigious award given by the National Museum of Cinema to personalities who have left an indelible mark on the world of cinema and culture.
Celebrating this moment will be Vladimir Luxuria, the festival’s artistic director, who stated:
“A complete artist and tireless activist, Alan Cumming has navigated his career without ever compromising his identity, advocating for visibility and recognition of the LGBTQ+ community even in less welcoming times. A brilliant and profound actor, committed to independent and socially conscious cinema while also excelling in mainstream productions, a sharp-witted writer, and a leading figure on both British and American stages—honoring such a personality is not just an obligation but a privilege for Lovers. Alan has consistently remained true to himself while supporting his community in every way possible.”
Renowned for his versatility, Alan Cumming is an actor, producer, writer, and singer. Recently, he hosted and produced the Emmy-winning reality show The Traitors and took on the role of artistic director at the Pitlochry Festival Theatre in Scotland. His career spans arthouse cinema and blockbuster hits, and he has authored seven books, including a bestselling memoir.
His accolades include two Tony Awards, an Olivier Award, a BAFTA, two Emmy Awards, and a Producers Guild Award. Beyond his artistic achievements, Cumming is a passionate activist for LGBTQ+ rights.
Alongside receiving the Stella della Mole, Alan Cumming will attend the Lovers Film Festival as the lead actor in “Drive Back Home”, the latest film by Michael Clowater.
Set in the winter of 1970, the film follows a hot-tempered plumber from rural New Brunswick who embarks on a 1,000-mile journey to Toronto to bail out his estranged gay brother, who was arrested for public indecency. Forced by their mother to return home together, the two brothers must confront their past and their fractured relationship. A true story inspires the film.
Founded by Giovanni Minerba and Ottavio Mai, the Lovers Film Festival is the longest-running Italian festival dedicated to LGBTQI+ cinema. Under the direction of Vladimir Luxuria, this year’s special edition will take place from April 10 to 17, 2025, at Cinema Massimo in Turin, the multiscreen venue of the National Museum of Cinema.
Supported by the Italian Ministry of Culture (MiC), the Piedmont Region, and the City of Turin, the festival continues to be a key platform for queer culture, promoting dialogue and representation through cinema.
Alan Cumming receives the Stella della Mole, making the Lovers Film Festival 2025 an unforgettable edition filled with prestigious guests, exclusive premieres, and powerful stories of resilience and visibility.
