Presented out of competition at the Venice Film Festival 2026, in the Open section, Oasis: Don’t Look Back in Anger follows the emotional impact of Liam and Noel Gallagher‘s Oasis reunion tour Live ’25, drawing on the brothers’ first joint interviews in over 25 years and never-before-filmed rehearsals to capture what their music means to audiences across generations. Directors Dylan Southern and Will Lovelace talk about turning the reunion into a story about forgiveness, family and the fans who made it possible.

A family the brothers built with their fans

Southern and Lovelace say the reunion was never only about the two brothers. “When we started making the film we knew that a huge part of it obviously was going to be the Gallaghers and their relationship,” they say, “and there’s a lot of questions. Is this reconciliation for real? Will the tour last?” Those questions receded once the film found its real subject, in the edit.

“Films are always changing. When you get into the edit, the film kind of tells you what it wants to be. And this film told us that it needed to be a film about this moment we’re living through now, that everybody’s so kind of divided and waste their lives arguing with other people, that maybe the Gallagher brothers is an avatar for that thing of coming together.”For the directors, that shift put the audience itself at the center of the story: “I would say that the most important member of Oasis is the crowd, and that was kind of proved last summer during those concerts.”

An emotional journey neither brother expected

Even Liam and Noel, the directors say, didn’t fully know what the reunion would feel like. “I don’t think anyone, particularly Liam, I don’t think they knew what it was going to be like. I think they knew the music was going to be great, but they didn’t know what the atmosphere would be like and what it would feel like.” That surprise is written into the film’s first concert, in Cardiff: “You see it in the audience when they’re waiting for the show to start, and you definitely see it when the show finishes, and you sort of see what it means to people.”

For Southern and Lovelace, it was the crowd’s reaction that opened the door to the brothers’ own reconciliation: “Receiving that much love and excitement from the crowd created a situation in which Noel and Liam could look at each other again and remember things that they’d forgotten about each other, or perhaps appreciate something that they never had, with the passing of time and being a bit older.”

Plot

Oasis: Don’t Look Back in Anger explores the explosive emotional impact of Liam and Noel Gallagher’s triumphant Oasis reunion tour Live ’25 including their first joint interviews in over 25 years and never before filmed rehearsals, as well as celebrating what their music means to audiences and generations around the world.
