Interview with Savina Neirotti, Biennale College Blend Head of Programme Carolina Mancini

Podcast | Download

Savina Neirotti talks about Biennale College Blend, the new initiative under the umbrella of Biennale College  she is Head of Programme of, and  whose six final projects were presented on Septmeber 6th, on the Venice Immersive Island during the Venice Film Festival 2026 and the 15th the Venice Production Bridge.

The focus is on exploring how the Biennale College Blend fosters hybrid projects in the arts.

Savina Neirotti shares insights into the objectives, selection process, and future developments of this innovative initiative. And talks about the winning project, The 3 bitocoin Opera by Claudix Vanesix, which was supported with a 20,000 euro award for further research.

The origins and goals of Biennale College Blend

Savina Neirotti explains how the concept was born out of the unique interdisciplinary nature of the Biennale, which encompasses sectors like architecture, art, theatre, dance, music, and cinema. The aim was to create a space for hybrid works that combine multiple art forms, reflecting contemporary artistic trends. The pilot edition selected participants under 30 from around the world, with a focus on fostering experimental projects that can grow and develop further.

The selection process and technological aspects of the projects

Savina Neirotti details the diverse geographic origins of applicants, including many from Asia and Italy, highlighting the broad reach of the initiative. She discusses the innovative training methods employed during the workshops, such as role-playing and immersive exercises, designed to stimulate creativity and deeper collaboration among participants. The jury, composed by the  directors of the different Biennale sectors, evaluated the projects based on their ability to embody the concept of hybrid art and technological experimentation.
Neirotti emphasizes the importance of balancing innovative technology with thematic depth, as seen in The 3 Bitcoin Opera, which explores identity, migration, and indigenous cultures through music, theatre, dance, and AI.”

The second edition of Biennale College Blend

Savina Neirotti confirms the success of the Biennale College Blend pilot edition, and announces plans for a second edition, with the deadline for applications set for mid-October.

She also mentions other ongoing workshops and panels, such as the annual critique session with international film critics and the upcoming premiere of the first animation produced by Biennale College Cinema, Moonfish, which is also the  only animation project supported in this edition of the Venice Film Festival.
