Interview with WEI Shujun, director of Only the river flows, presented at the 76th Festival de Cannes in the Un Certain Regard section.
Only the river flows: Only the river flows, the new film by Wei Shujun, presented at the 76th Festival de Cannes in the Un Certain Regard section is the adaptation of Yu Hua’s short story about a detective, a man, his work and his solitude. The short story is actually a way for Wei Shujun to experiment the noir genre. The director also elaborates on the Albert Camus’ quote at the beginning of the film as it is a reflection on destiny.
